The following may have been brothers; Wm Symes arrived in York Co., VA on Aug 1671. James Symes came to Surry Co, VA with Capt. Banker, in June 1671. An Adam Symes owned land in Kent Co., VA by 1683. (Not Adam Symes son of George, ours, he was born 1686)
Sons John , Mathew, Edward & George were considered to be sons sons of George Sims, born 1672 in Antiqua, Britsh West Indies in the book SIMS KIN.
WILL: 18-12-1710, first 4 boys were over 24; John, Matthew, Edward , & George.
He also named three youngest sons as James, Robert & William.
INFO: In a court case pertaining to negros which John, Matthew, Edward, & John (George's son) claimed James held in his possession and refused to relinquish said negros to the four brothers. It appears that these negros were issue of the negros, Cate & ??, had been willed to the brothers John, Matthew, Edward & George, but George having died previous to June 1740 is represented by his son John in court.
For details see Arnot's book for his justification of all of his claims.
From Al's Genealogy Page on the Net:
"Records indicate that there was a William Symes who was Constable in Essex county in 1686. Though not proven this is likely to be this William Symes. Essex county is immediately across the Rapahannock River from Richmond County where his son William Jr. lived."
In the 1670's and 1680's William and his brothers George and Richard went into the American Colonies. Richard returned home to England where an estate had been set up for him, but George and William settled in southeastern Virginia in the area of the Isle of Wight [County], and Nansemond County area. William moved north from there, and received a land grant in New Kent County where he settled with his family. William died there in 1726.
According to St. Peter's Parish records,[ page 53 DEATHS] page 70; William Sims died
Febry. 17th, 1725-6
**Probably not the same William Symes.

William Symes arrived in York County, Virginia in August of 1671.
Col. Robert Randolph Jones makes this family a son of Thomas and Amy, Ancester of
John Sims Jr. who married sarah Bullock, through George Symes and Elizabet, William's
Arnot makes him the son of George Jr., son of Capt. George, son of Thomas, but the
dates are wrong for that to be true.
Barefield (92) names him son of Thomas and Amy Bridges, landed in James Cily County,
VA, and was used in the formation of New Kent County, VA. In 1698 he was granted land
for bringing 19 people into the colony.
On January 11, 1705 he received 450 acres in New Kent. A will has not been found but a
portion showed up in Louisa County, VA, among his children. THIS IS THE WILLIAM
that Arnot claimed unknown relationship to George. This XXXI is brother to George who
married Dorothy Everard if so.
William went to New Kent, VA, directly to some but he is also confused with William
Sims of New Kent County. There may have been two William's there. His brother named
William's son Richard in his will.
William was a Clergyman ! SM112-AAD REF: John Symes Will of 1658.
Because John's oldest son was dead Poundisford Manor was passed to William.
Arnot makes this family a son of George Symes Jr. & Elizabeth, but based on
WALTON-SIMS book it states otherwise.
5. WILLIAM SIMES, b. c. 1646 64 at Somerset,65 Eng. He m. (when?) (where?) Mary.66 He is apparently the "William Symes, living 1675" 67 mentioned in the History of Antigua, p. 111. Petty (pp. 2 3) says
William Sims Sr. was from the Island of Antigua, and was the son of Thomas and Amy Bridges. William and several of his siblings had moved to Antigua 68 from Poundi[s]ford, Somerset, England, and are identified in the church and probate records of both Antigua and Somerset.69 In the 1670's and 1680's William and his brothers George and Richard went into the American Colonies. Richard returned home to England where an estate had been set up for him, but George and William settled in southeastern Virginia in the area of the Isle of Wight [County],70 and Nansemond County71 area. William moved north from there, and received a land grant in New Kent County72 where he settled with his family. William died there in 1726.
